Rudolf Virchow
There’s a reason so many German hospitals bear the name of Rudolf Virchow. His thrombosis research became world-renowned. A pathologist by training, Virchow also campaigned for basic healthcare for all citizens – a precursor to the healthcare system in Germany today. It was his initiative that established the first municipal hospitals in Berlin.
